Hair loss is a common problem for both men and women as they age. Hair becomes thinner and even more brittle. You may have bald patches or simply flatter, thinner hair overall. This occurs because the hair follicles become weakened. They may not be receiving all the nutrients they need to maintain hair growth.

Many people with thinner hair feel a loss of confidence or self-esteem. But there are non-surgical solutions to improve hair thickness and reduce baldness and help you feel great about yourself.

What is Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy uses substances from your own body to encourage healing and growth. It is safe and can be effective for slowing hair loss and regrowing lost hair. It is regularly used in both men and women who are experiencing thinning hair and even has been used in people with alopecia.

To participate in PRP therapy, first, a nurse will draw a small amount of your blood, around 60 to 120 ccs. This blood is then spun in a centrifuge, separating out the plasma from other blood cells. This leads to a very concentrated, nutrient-rich plasma.

Next, your nurse will apply a numbing agent to your scalp to help keep you comfortable. Finally, the PRP is injected strategically throughout your hair to encourage new growth. Your nurse will focus on areas with hair loss, often at the front of the head or on the crown.

How does PRP therapy work?
PRP, which contains many nutrients and growth factors, is used throughout your body for healing and growth. By concentrating the amount of plasma and applying it to areas of your scalp where the hair is starting to thin, we provide the hair follicles with the nutrients they need to maintain hair growth and encourage hair regrowth.

How can I get the best hair restoration results?

For the best results, you’ll need regular PRP therapy appointments. These appointments help maintain your hair growth over time, even as you age. Each therapy session delivers the vital nutrients your hair follicles need to keep producing hair.

You’ll also see better results if you begin PRP therapy as soon as you begin to see signs of hair loss. The earlier you begin hair restoration therapy, the more effective it will be in reducing hair loss. Larger bald patches may be harder to fill in than smaller areas, so, like many other anti-aging therapies, it is best to take action if you notice the signs of aging.

You don’t have to live with bald spots or thinning hair. At Fountain of You, MD in Virginia Beach, we offer PRP therapy to women and men of all ages to reduce hair loss and restore thicker hair. Contact us at 757-644-4615 to schedule your appointment today.
