hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) is a protein-based hormone that helps maintain the production of other essential hormones, like Progesterone and Estrogen. hCG is sometimes called the “pregnancy hormone” because it is made by cells in the placenta and because it is vital in maintaining pregnancy.
