How Testosterone Changed My Life – A Doctor’s Perspective
“When you show deep empathy for others, their defensive energy goes down, and positive energy goes up. That’s when you can get more creative solving problems.”Stephen Covey
When I hit the age of 50, I knew something was drastically wrong. I felt foggy headed, grumpier than usual, down in the dumps, had lost my libido and motivation, and I was exhausted all the time. I mean, I would wake up tired. I’d been diagnosed with hypertension, high cholesterol, borderline diabetes, and sleep apnea. My weight was at an all time high. I know what to do, not because I’m a doctor, but because I’m a man.
A couple of years later, I went to a local clinic specializing in TRT. By then, my level of testosterone was 260 ng/dL. I was told by the physician that that was a very treatable number, despite still being in “normal range”. I signed up immediately and received my first shot that day. That same clinic hired me 6 months later after seeing my transformation. I’ve lost 75 pounds, my endurance and strength are way up, and I no longer have hypertension, sleep apnea, high cholesterol or elevated blood sugar.
Now, I also need to explain that I “walk the walk”. I always explain to my patients, that if you are going to continue to abuse yourself, the therapy will not work. Many factors are contributing to our Low T levels as a society. I am a passionate believer that if we identify the culprits behind the Low T epidemic, we can make changes to augment our therapy and improve our testosterone levels. I have a 97% success rate, and I swear, the 3% that don’t respond continue to eat processed food, drink a 12 pack (of beer) every night and don’t get moving (exercise). If you are going to go through all of this trouble, pay for an expensive therapy, and get a sharp reminder in your ass every week or two, you’ll want to do the work to ensure success. Most patients take my advice to heart and do well.
I wasn’t sure if I was going to enjoy practicing in such a restricted practice. After all, doctors are sort of detectives. I absolutely love it! The reward of changing someone’s life and helping them regain their vitality and vigor, is the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done in my 28 years of medical practice. I’ve learned other ways of helping women and men regain their youthful feel and shave years off their appearance and mindset. It’s why I’ve founded Fountain of You MD.
